Seggiano is a small village located between the slopes of Monte Amiata and a stretch of the Val d'Orcia, in the province of Grosseto. This peaceful village, with just over 1000 inhabitants, is known for its oil production, thanks to the microclimate favorable to the cultivation of olive trees. The oil produced with the Olivastra Seggianese, an autochthonous botanical species, is highly appreciated for its remarkable nutritional properties and its particular antioxidant heritage. The historic center of Seggiano is characterized by the presence of the Rocca Aldobrandesca and various places of interest such as the Church of San Bartolomeo, the Church of the Company of Corpus Domini, the Oratory of San Rocco and the Convent of Colombaio, the first Franciscan convent in province of Grosseto. Outside the walls of the village is the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Carità. In the historic centre, you can admire a unique rarity of its kind: an Olivastra Seggianese plant, the largest plant in the world, cultivated with the aeroponics method. This installation is part of a large project born thanks to the collaboration with the neurobiologist Stefano Mancuso. Also in the historic centre, you can visit the old mill where the oil was produced. This oil mill, one of the first examples of the use of a dynamo, has been renovated respecting and without modifying anything to bring it back to life. In the immediate vicinity of the historic centre, you can visit the beautiful Daniel Spoerri Garden, a garden-museum with over 120 sculptures by various artists.
