Follonica is a seaside resort on the Maremma coast which offers a very pleasant holiday experience. The town is famous for its wide golden sandy beach, equipped with bathing establishments, and its characteristic promenade with bars and restaurants. The crystal clear and shallow waters make the beach of Follonica ideal for families with children, but also for lovers of water sports such as windsurfing, kite surfing and paddleboarding and for the most famous beach in Maremma: Cala Violina which is located Scarlino. For nature lovers, the Sterpaia natural park which extends for about ten kilometers between Piombino and Follonica and the island of Cerboli is highly recommended. The island of the Tuscan archipelago, located off the coast of Follonica, can only be reached by boat and is an excellent destination for those who love snorkelling and nature excursions. The historic center of Follonica overlooks the tourist port and is characterized by alleys and small squares. Here you can admire the Church of San Leopoldo and the Palazzo Ducale, which today houses the Town Hall. An obligatory visit is to be dedicated to the Magma Museum, the museum of the cast iron arts of the Maremma. The museum is located in the old oven of San Ferdinando, a building in the district of the Ilva foundries in Follonica, which represents an abandoned industrial area of particular interest which also gives access to the archaeological technological park of the metalliferous hills. A few kilometers outside the town, the old ruins of the Valli castle can be visited. Today, only a few ruined walls and towers remain of the remains of the castle, but the site is nonetheless of historical and tourist interest. The visit from the top of the hill on which the castle stands is very suggestive and allows you to admire the surrounding landscape, including the sea.
