Description
"One of the most beautiful villages in Italy in the shape of a heart" Montemerano is a small village in the municipality of Manciano and is located between the capital and the famous spa town of Saturnia. The medieval village is located on a hill and is surrounded by dense olive groves with centenary trees, in fact to discover the beauty of this place it is necessary to go up to the historic centre. Montemerano has been one of the most beautiful villages in Italy since 2014 and is an obligatory stop for those who love to discover the most hidden beauties of the Maremma. The pretty village is perfect for a relaxing stroll and you can taste typical local products in the restaurants and clubs. Particular attention should be paid to the Church of San Giorgio, one of the most important Romanesque churches in the Maremma. The building dedicated to the town's patron saint overlooks Piazza della Chiesa and is flanked by the walls from which there is a breathtaking view of the hilly landscape of the Albegna Valley. The most important tourist attraction is the wonderful Piazza del Castello. It is located at the highest point of the town and if you enter it from the main door going up Via del Castello, called "La Piaggiola" by the people of Montemerano, you can admire all its charm. The square is one of a kind and the stately building with the tower integrates perfectly with the other houses. In the Middle Ages it was the parade ground and in the village of Montemerano the castle represents the entire upper part of the town, today it presents itself as a magical place where you can stay for hours observing every detail and be lulled by the silence and stillness that is disturbed only from the swallows that chase each other over the roofs in summer.
