Description
Come and discover the village of the oldest spas in Italy! Saturnia is one of those destinations that you have to visit at least once in your life. The village has Etruscan origins and the thermal spring located in the valley two kilometers from the historic center represents a well-being destination famous for the curative properties of the sulphurous waters, for the elegance of the Terme di Saturnia resort and for the naturalistic beauty of the Mill. The thermal spring for more than 3000 years and has characterized the history of this place since its origins. The Etruscans used the waters for esoteric rituals and the Romans benefited from them from a curative point of view, in short, a spa town rich in history which today boasts one of the largest spas in Italy, a luxury resort with an 18-hole golf course holes. The historic center of Saturnia is surrounded by the remains of cyclopean walls which can be admired in various points, not to be missed is the "Porta Romana", which gives access to the ancient Via Clodia which is passable for a splendid walk in nature. Inside the historic center of Saturnia you can admire the "Bagno Secco", a legend tells that the source moved from that specific point downstream, only after the glorious soldier Orlando pronounced the request: "O bath that is inside Saturnia, go to the plain and heal rasp and mange!". Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Saturnia still has the shape of the ancient Roman forum and is surrounded by shops, restaurants and bars which make it the main meeting point of the town where the summer events organized by the town's associations are also held. At the center there is the Felicina fountain, symbol of the town and an urban museum of some bas-reliefs found right in the hamlet of Saturnia. A mandatory visit is to the Polo Culturale Pietro Aldi of Banca Tema, still in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, which preserves and exhibits a beautiful collection of the works of the Manciano painter. Instead, a few kilometers outside the village in the direction of Semproniano - Usi/Murci, you can visit the Necropolis of Puntone which represents the greatest evidence of Etruscan settlements.
