La porta, oggi scomparsa, si trovava nell'area dell'attuale piazza Giuseppe Verdi e portava il nome del fosso che limitava le mura su questo lato della città, oggi detto Urcionio. Visibile ancora nel XV secolo, di essa rimane oggi solo l'epigrafe che ne celebrava la realizzazione all'inizio del XII secolo. Questa la traduzione: MI CHIAMO SONSA, PORTA DI VITERBO LA SPLENDIDA / GRANDE IL MIO NOME, ETERNI I MIEI PRIVILEGI / CHIUNQUE SIA GRAVATO DA CONDIZIONE SERVILE / SE MIO CITTADINO SI FACCIA, SIA CONSIDERATO UOMO LIBERO / IL SOMMO IMPERATORE ENRICO MI CONCESSE QUESTO PRIVILEGIO / ANNO 1095 DELL’INCARNAZIONE DEL SIGNORE QUESTA PORTA INIZIO’AD ESSERE / COSTRUITA ESSENDO PAPA PASQUALE ed ENRICO IMPERATORE / FU PORTATA A COMPIMENTO AL TEMPO DI PAPA EUGENIO COSTRUTTORI FURONO / RANIERO MINCIO E PIETRO PER DELIBERAZIONE DEI CONSOLI E DI TUTTO IL POPOLO. / Gottifredo dettò i versi e Rollando li scolpì.
